On Sunday February 26th, Kurt Busch became the Daytona 500 champion. Busch did not lead a single lap the whole day, but towards the end of the race, he passed up Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson, who both ran out of gas.
“The strategy today, who knew what, to pit when. Everybody’s wrecking as soon as we’re done with the second segment. The more that I’ve run this race, the more that I’ve thrown caution to the wind and just let it rip. That group put on a fantastic run to the end and everyone did a great job not to wreck each other,” Busch said in an interview after the race.
Busch has competed in this race multiple times. He has never won before, but he has been in the top five a total of five times, including two second places.
Busch ended up on top with his 29th career win!
