Shamrock Shakes

Shamrock shakes are one McDonald’s favorite seasonal item. Although very high in calories McDonald’s continues to sell them at an alarming rate. 60 million have been sold since they introduced shakes in 1970. They have introduced four flavors including the traditional shamrock shake, a chocolate version, a chocolate chip frappe version, and hot shamrock mocha. although shamrock shakes are delightful, are they really worth it?

22 grams of fat (34% U.S. recommended percent daily value, DV*), 14 grams of saturated fat (72% DV), 1 gram of trans fat, 103 grams of total carbohydrates (34% DV), 90 milligrams of cholesterol (30% DV), 115 grams of sugar (The AHA recommends consuming no more than 25-36 grams/day), 280 milligrams of sodium (12% DV)”shamrock shakes take up most of your daily fats in just one drink.

“1.5 McDonald’s Big Macs (540 calories per Big Mac), 2.5 McDonald’s Hot Fudge Sundaes (330 calories per Hot Fudge Sundae), and 2.8 McDonald’s Egg McMuffins (290 calories per Egg McMuffin)” This is how much food at McDonald’s you could eat and intake the same amount of calories as one large shamrock.
